First Hospital In Broward To Receive National Certification For Hip And Knee Replacement

Deerfield Beach, FL – Broward Health North Broward Medical Center’s Joint Replacement Center has earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ for health care quality. The Joint Commission awarded Broward Health North Broward Medical Center Disease-Specific Care Certification for Hip Replacement and Knee Replacement.

To earn this distinction, the program underwent extensive, announced, on-site evaluations by a team of Joint Commission reviewers. The program was evaluated for its processes, the ability to evaluate and improve care and thorough interviews with patients and staff. “This certification means that Broward Health North Broward Medical Center does the right things and does them well for hip replacement and knee replacement patients,” says Jean E Range, M.S., R.N., C.P.H.Q., executive director, Disease Specific Care Certification, Joint Commission.

“North Broward Medical Center voluntarily pursued this comprehensive, independent evaluation to enhance the safety and quality of care we provide,” says Pauline Grant, CEO. “We are proud to be the first hospital in Broward County and one of only three in the state of Florida to achieve this distinction.”

“The Joint Replacement Center at North Broward Medical Center features the latest advances in joint replacement surgery, private rooms and family-centered patient education,” says Dr. Bruce Janke, Medical Director of the NBMC Joint Replacement Center. “It’s also one of the few hospitals in South Florida equipped with a Hana Table and the surgeons trained to provide Anterior Hip Replacement Surgery without detaching the muscle from the hip or thigh bones. The most important muscles for hip function, the gluteal muscles are left undisturbed and therefore do not require a healing process. Patients can expect a quicker recovery including less pain, minimal scarring, a shorter hospital stay, more accurate leg lengths and an overall quicker return to normal activities without the standard post operative precautions.”

In addition to the joint replacement program, North Broward Medical Center is also Joint Commission certified for its stroke, Alzheimer’s disease and stroke rehabilitation programs.
